Technology Assessment & Research (TA&R) Program

Project Number 599
Date of Summary July 5, 2011
Subject Joint Industry Project to Quantify Risks in Deepwater Production Facilities and Flowlines in the GOM
Performing Activity The University of Tulsa
Principal Investigator Dr. Michael Volk, Jr.
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion January 2012
Description To study the Quantified Risks in Deepwater Production Facilities and Flowlines in the GOM. This project proposes to develop an understanding of flow assurance, especially hydrates, where the economic risk management will be the future hydrate flow assurance philosophy. A means to assess the risk in multiple productions and restart scenarios is needed. The newest phase has a focus on the transportability of hydrates through flow lines. This will test the belief of hydrate prevention versus transportation.
Progress The work is a continuation of the hydrate JIP project #435. Non-confidential JIP board meeting notes and progress reports are available in the reports section.  An advisory board meeting was held in Houston on April 20,2011.
