Technology Assessment & Research (TA&R) Program

Project Number 444
Date of Summary January 26, 2005
Subject Integrity Monitoring for Composite Elements and Workshop
Performing Activity OTRC, Texas A&M
Principal Investigator Ochoa and Williams
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion September 2003
Description The project had developed criteria for the level of inspection needed for composite structures used offshore and to develop an understanding of the availability of Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) tools that could be economically applied to assess the integrity performance and safety of critical primary structures. A one-day symposium was held on November 21, 2002 in Houston. The key issues for the research and development were the following: Designing and Building Inspectability; Passive/Active Insitu Monitoring (underwater and downhole), and Reliability of Inspection Methods in Specific Applications.
Progress The workshop was successful; the project is completed.
