Technology Assessment & Research (TA&R) Program

Project Number 421
Date of Summary September 6, 2005
Subject Seafloor Slope Stability Assessment
Performing Activity Texas A&M University, Offshore Technology Research Center (OTRC)
Principal Investigator Wright
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion August 2003
Description A 1 ½ day forum on Risk Assessment for Submarine Slope Stability with special emphasis on deepwater was organized and conducted with participation from government, academia and industry. In addition, extensive research and compilation of data from literature was conducted to develop a database on submarine slope failures. Because the information required to perform a complete risk assessment was limited, the objective was to develop a database to provide information that can be used to supplement site-specific data for making risk assessments of sea floor stability.
Progress A workshop on Risk Assessment of Submarine Slope Stability in Deepwater has been completed and a final report has been issued. A paper summarizing the findings of the workshop was prepared and presented at the 2002 DOT conference in New Orleans in November, 2003.

The project has been completed.
