Technology Assessment & Research (TA&R) Program

Project Number 381
Date of Summary July 01, 2001
Subject Identification and Characterization of Shallow Water Flows Using Seismic Analysis Techniques
Performing Activity Conoco
Principal Investigator Alan R. Huffman, Ph.D.
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion November 2000
Completion Complete
Description The JIP developed an advanced seismic analysis method to detect shallow sands that are prone to SWF and to identify which sands will actually flow. The JIP improved detection and identification methods for SWF, which will reduce the occurrence of and risk of SWF. JIP work included laboratory measurements of affected rocks and sediments, pre-processing multi-component seismic lines, computer modeling, and use of specialized seismic analysis techniques.
Progress The principal investigator presented a paper on the JIP at OTC 2000. The project is completed. The proprietary period for the report has ended.
