| Subject |
Method for Predicting
Hydrodynamic Damping for Offshore Structures |
| Performing Activity |
University of Mississippi |
| Principal Investigator |
Dr. Thomas E. Horton |
| Contracting Agency |
Naval Civil Engineering
Laboratory |
| Estimated Completion |
Complete |
| Description |
The objective was to
develop improved damping parameters and methods of representing the effects of damping for
the analysis and verification of deep water platforms. The MMS was one of six other
participants in this Joint Industry Project (JIP) to improve present practice through use
of an alternative to the Morrison equation, called the Inertial Pressure Method (IPM). |
| Progress |
Complete. The results
of this investigation provided a basis for future studies in the area of controlled
damping (active and passive), such as enhanced damping cycle to reduce loads and fatigue
effects on the structure. |
