Technology Assessment & Research (TA&R) Program

Project Number 11
Date of Summary December 31, 1979
Subject Portable Data Recorder for USGS inspectors
Performing Activity Harry Diamond Laboratories
Principal Investigator Mr. Edward Burke
Contracting Agency U.S. Geological Survey
Estimated Completion Complete
Description The development of a `breadboard` portable data recording system which could be used by Government inspectors to obtain both digital and verbal data during periodic inspections of offshore installations.
Progress Complete. After design and fabrication of hardware for evaluation of the system, it was decided to study the human capabilities for using such a complex recording system. Human engineering specialists from the Army Research Institute concluded that it was too complex but recommended changes in existing Outer Continental Shelf data acquisitions and storage methods.
