Remarks:
The petroleum
portion (196.1 bbl) of this incident is still a MINOR spill. The
Vermilion 386 B 4-pile fixed platform, installed in Federal waters in
1979 was destroyed by Hurricane Ike.
The platform was shut in prior to the storm and the subsea safety valves
held which limited oil losses to that which was stored on the structure.
196.1 bbl of hydrocarbons from the platform topsides were estimated to
have been lost during Hurricane Ike: 31.2 bbl of crude oil, 145.8
bbl diesel oil, and 19.1 bbl other refined products. In addition,
an estimated 57.7 bbl of chemicals
were lost, including 32.1 bbl glycol.

Remarks:
The
DOI-regulated 8" receiving riser segment #13296, installed in Federal
waters in 2001, was damaged when
Hurricane Ike toppled VR 386 Platform B. The pipeline was shut in
prior to the storm and the safety valves held which limited oil losses
to that which was in the segment. 267.5 bbl of hydrocarbons, all
condensate, from the damaged riser were estimated to have been lost
during Hurricane Ike.

Hurricane Ike toppled VR 386 Platform B. The pipeline was shut in
prior to the storm and the safety valves held which limited oil losses
to that which was in the segment. 209.0 bbl of hydrocarbons, all
crude oil, from the damaged riser were estimated to have been lost
during Hurricane Ike.
