Environmental Assessment Program

Branch of Environmental Assessment (BEA)

Environmental Oversight of the Marine Minerals Program

Since 1995, the Marine Minerals Program (MMP) has conveyed over 30 million cubic yards of Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) sand for beach nourishment and other coastal restoration projects to protect more than 100 miles of the nation’s coastline. The BEA prepares, coordinates, and oversees environmental analyses in support of the MMP. We also sponsor and review environmental studies to assess the environmental effects of these types of sand and gravel uses. Information about past studies can be found on the MMP’s webpage dedicated to Marine Mineral Research.
