Inspections for Compliance with Class I Disposal Well Permit

In 2004, the Alaska Region approved an application for permit to drill a disposal well for the Northstar development project. This well is classified as a Class I disposal well under EPA’s regulations pursuant to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The well was permitted by EPA and BOEMRE because of overlapping jurisdiction - the surface location is on State submerged lands and the bottom hole location is on the OCS. The Alaska Region co-manages this disposal well with the EPA, including inspection of the well and disposal records.
