Archaeological Resource Protection

In the Alaska Region, specific leases in the Beaufort Sea have been identified as having archeological resource potential. BOEMRE regulations require archaeological surveys be performed and reports to be prepared in support of any proposed activities on those leases. A listing of the leases is included in the sale notice for OCS Lease Sale 195. The technical requirements for archaeological resource surveys and reports are detailed in an Alaska Region Notice to Lessees titled Archaeological Survey and Evaluation for Exploration and Development Activities.
