Report

In October 1998, a workgroup from Bureau Headquarters completed a review of crane incidents that occurred between January 1995 and August 1998.This report discusses the workgroup's review and analysis of these accidents and makes recommendations for improving crane safety.

The report provides the following:

bullet Summary of the workgroup’s review of recent crane accidents and trend analysis;

bullet Discussion of Bureau’ as well as the United States Coast Guard’s regulatory requirements for cranes; and

bullet Recommendations for improving crane safety.

Although this report was published in 1998, and while the report represents the views of the workgroup and not necessarily the views of Bureau, accidents are still occurring. The Bureau still wants to hear your thoughts on how to improve the safety of crane operations. You may submit your comments directly to Bill Hauser (703-787-1613) or Wilbon Rhome (703-787-1587).
