Citation: Sandi Fury

The Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service presents its 1998 Corporate Leadership Award to Sandi Fury for her leadership capabilities.  This award recognizes her commitment and contributions which enhanced MMS's ability to meet its mission objectives.

Ms. Fury is the Environment and Safety Manager for the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Business Unit.  Ms. Fury worked on a personal level to assist MMS during a multi-year Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process for a proposed major development in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.  This is the first project of its kind for the eastern Gulf and the first EIS for a Development and Production Plan (DPP) in the Region.

Ms. Fury's proactive approach goes beyond MMS and has been evident during cooperative agreements between MMS and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  As the lead agency, MMS must consider EPA's management of issues.  Ms. Fury has aided MMS's oversight of EPA's input into the DPP EIS by providing exhaustive material and personal insight over and beyond what is required.

These efforts reflect the unselfish and professional effort by Ms. Fury in promoting safety and corporate responsibility consistent with the intent and spirit of the Corporate Leadership Award.
